Sita Bathing Her Cubs

Sita Bathing Her Cubs
Bandhavgarh National Park, India, 1996
We arrived on the back of an elephant before Sita had returned from her night of hunting. The cubs were hiding in a small cave and only came out when they heard Mom approach. Here, she cleans them and transfers her scent, then lets them drink. Later, as she goes to hunt, she signals her departure by "squeaking," and the cubs scurry into the cave for safety.
