Sita and Forest

Sita and Forest
Bandhavgarh National Park India, 1996
I left the park months before at the end of the hot dry season. Sita had 3 month old cubs which she had been very nervous about showing. I returned on this day in October when the forest was still green from the monsoon. I expected to find Sita with very large cubs. Instead from small caves to her left and right we heard the squeaks of new cubs. This suprised all the park staff and the best we could figure is that the previous cubs were not the offspring of the dominant male Charger and he had killed them sending Sita into estrus for a mating that produced the new cubs. Sita and Charger made famous by the National Geographic magazine article and several films have died naturally and been replaced in the territory by these cubs"
