Brutus and a Colobus Monkey
Tai Forest, Cote d’Ivoire, 1991
These chimpanzees are unique in that they hunt cooperatively. A dominant male often leads a group of males and females who surround and kill red colobus monkeys. In this case Brutus has captured a gift dropped at his feet by a crowned eagle — and, as this happened, I remember researcher Christophe Boesch exclaiming “incroyable!”
