Charging Elephant

Charging Elephant
Near Dzanga Bai, Central African Republic, 1993
This image stands for the way I feel about nature. On that morning I was up before first light, slipping half-awake down to a small creek that the elephants grazed in until dawn. Forest elephants have been heavily hunted throughout their range, so the scent of a human often brings this response. I had picked out a tree to hide behind and shot this frame just before I started to run.
